Well folks it looks as
if I am set to have the next batch of work done on the house in the
not too far distant future. My request did not go down too well with
the estate manager but in all conscience he has only himself to blame
for the deplorable state of many of the properties in his care.
I am not the only
tenant to have sent in a request for outstanding repairs ,a neighbour
of ours has submitted a long list of outstanding work in order of
priority beginning with the roof and ending in the basement. This
lady pays over £40,000 per annum to rent a Grade 1 listed building
with holes in the roof, rising damp, rotten plaster ,rotten timber and
fuzzy blue mould flourishing in every room.
Of course she could
move but she has lived in the property for years and it has become
home to her,she is elderly and does not wish to move.
Operating on the theory
that he who shouts the loudest gets the job done we formed a tenants
choir and have been singing loudly from the same hymn sheet for some
time.
Of course our landlord
considers us to be very disobliging and looks upon the affair as a
sort of latter day peasants revolt.
Now it must be faced
that this year he did drop ever so slightly on the annual rich list
and I am not unsympathetic to his plight, the fact remains that his
cavalier attitude to his tenants is deplorable and so long as this
remains the case he will continue to find it impossible to find a
forelock tugging yokel in these parts! Amen!
