A LAZY DAY AT LAST

After yesterday's frantic activity the family committee decided that today we would all do as little as possible. The next few days are going to be busy and so we all felt that we deserved a lazy day., and this time no one arrived for breakfast , lunch or dinner, for which relief much thanks.
My son and I had coffee together and left Pa in bed until after ten, we messed about playing computer games and scouring the internet for bargains.

While Pa collected himself I made a vast pan of porridge which we ate with brown sugar and melted butter, sometimes we have it with cream and syrup, either way it is lovely on a chilly morning.
My son was expecting a few parcels today, and was distinctly dischuffed when they did not arrive, however nothing was going to spoil our lazy day.
I had been asked to do roast pork for dinner tonight and so I cooked it in our favourite way on a bed of garlic ,rosemary and sage. The garlic and herbs are sieved with some of the pan juices to make a sauce and the dish is served with jacket wedges, a creamy tarragon dip and a selection of roasted vegetables Today it was carrot, squash and parsnips, with a honey glaze. The meat is carved on to trenchers of bread so that the juices run over the slice, a traditional but now seldom used way to serve a meat dish.

Unsurprisingly none of us could manage a pudding after that so we each finished the meal with one of of home made liqueurs. The wild cherry vodka is marvellous this year and the orange rum is also very good.
During the course of the day the wind became quite strong and some odd things began to fly past the windows in the late after noon. This often happens when the refuse collectors have been as they are very selective about what they take , they often leave large plastic bags behind on the pavement and these then blow about and become a hazard to passers by. I once saw a little old lady completely engulfed by a huge polythene bag as she walked by, and on another occasion a car driver had to stop suddenly to remove a flattened cardboard box with had blown across his wind screen. This action caused the car behind to brake suddenly and a concertina of four vehicles was the unfortunate result. They once left a row of tin cans lined up on our garden wall for no reason at all, it makes a nonsense of recycling. Recently they have left the food bins unemptied, the problems caused by this neglect have been severe for all concerned. The foxes however have had a field day, it,s an ill wind and all that

Back to our lazy day. I have no idea why we are all so tired, but each of us feels better for our rest.
The only member of the household who carried on s normal was our cat. She fidgeted about all day long. When she was in she wanted to be out and when she was out she wanted to be in. I began to feel like a cats concierge and in a fit of exasperation I wrote a little song.

To be sung to the tune of The Hokey Kokey

The cat came in
The cat went out.
In out in out. She messed us all about.
She she ran in to the kitchen with a half dead mouse,
And that's when we threw her out.
Chorus
Oh someone let the cat out..
Quick someone let the cat in.
Please someone let the cat out.
And make sure she takes the mouse!

You may see from the fact that I have had time to make up potty little verses that I really have done very little today, hooray!
